Last weekend I decided to go ahead and try solids with Jett. He had become very interested in our food and even screamed at us while we are like he was trying to say, "give me some!"
Officially starting solids with him was kind of a spur of the moment decision. We were at Wallace Station in Midway with my parents and I let Jett gum some pieces of soggy bread from my Hot Brown sandwich. He LOVED it.
The next day we went with a more baby friendly food....bananas. I let him self limit his intake by just smashing some bananas on his tray. He would smash his hand in them and eat them all over his face in an attempt to get them in his mouth. All seamed to be going well until the next day. Jett became very constipated, had terrible gas and had belly pain. I finally gave him a suppository and he pooped but we held off on anymore food until his bowels were back to his normal (which isn't very normal). Once he seamed to fully recover we tried peaches. Unfortunately this resulted in him screaming for hours in the middle of the night. The only way I was able to get him to stop screaming was to walk around the back porch. I felt terrible for him. He was obviously in pain and nothing I did helped him. He wouldn't even nurse. He just arched his back and screamed. I was never not able to comfort Brody and wish I knew what Jett needed or how to help him but he is more challenging to figure out. For now we are shelving solid food. It was so traumatic I am not sure I ever want to try it again. Maybe I'll nurse him forever. (Joking). I am at least going to give it a few more months, and I plan on talking to his pediatrician about it in a few weeks. Hopefully she will have some insight.
